About the art

Our practice bridges photography, digital design, and laser-based mark-making to create works that are both image and object. Each piece begins as a photographic capture of an Arizona landscape or landmark, often embedded with GPS coordinates that link the work to its exact place of origin. The images are then digitally reinterpreted—stylized and prepared for translation into physical form—before being laser engraved onto carefully chosen substrates such as hand-laminated cotton papers or fine woods.

This process is not merely mechanical reproduction; it transforms a photographic moment into a tactile, dimensional surface. The laser engraving burns into the material, producing tonal depth and texture that conventional printing cannot replicate. The choice of substrate is deliberate: cotton papers lend a luminous, almost textile-like quality, while hardwoods emphasize permanence and connection to the desert environment.

Conceptually, the work extends beyond representation. By embedding GPS coordinates, viewers are invited into a participatory relationship—encouraged to visit the physical locations themselves and engage with the landscape firsthand. This creates a dialogue between image, place, and experience, positioning the work at the intersection of contemporary photography, site-specific art, and material experimentation.
